Festive Gifts | A Day of Making, Giving and Thinking of Others

We have been inspired by a local supporter who has donated money toward our Christmas Hamper project. The plan is to try and ensure that no child goes without feeling that someone has thought about them - no child goes hungry and that we all have a chance to consider what it means to come together and make a gift for someone else.

With this in mind, we have set out a plan that achieves exactly these things.

Festive Hampers

Christmas Hampers will be delivered to families over the festive break and in good time for Christmas Dinner. Families will receive everything that they need to make a traditional Christmas dinner as well as some treats to last the whole festive break. Families are invited to let us know if they would like to receive a hamper. Families can nominate other families for a hamper as well.

Festive Gifts

As a way of bringing everyone at Mayflower together, and with a focus on making and giving to others, we are hosting a Making and Giving event. See the details below...

Sunday 15th December

We will erect our big tent. This will then be ready for Father Christmas to visit and offer gifts that have been donated by our local (and very kind) supporter, to every pupil.

Monday 16th - Tuesday 17th December

We will begin making our community gifts to decorate our festive making tent. Families are invited to stay on after school and have a go at making a wire decoration and then decorating our festive tent. Here is an idea, that was shared with us, of the type of decorations that could be made.

Families can get creative and make a decoration of their choice. We will provide the wire. As a way to decorate the festive tent, all donations of battery-powered lights would be gratefully received. Lights could be returned to families after the event if helpful.

Message to Community...by all means bring snips and any other extra additions you'd like to add to your decoration.

Here's another super-duper version of the wire decoration idea. Mr. Brandenburg is busy getting creative to make this type of thing happen. If anyone wishes to offer a jig for decorations to be moulded around - that would be so kind. It might be helpful to know that every pupil will be given a wire length of 30-60 cm long. Festive style cookie cutters might also work well as a mould to bend the wire around.

Wednesday 18th December

Families can pop into our festive tent and have a photo with the decorations and collect a small gift for Christmas. Each decoration that's been made can be taken away to be given to someone special. A time for giving!

Thursday 19th - Friday 20th December

All hands on deck for taking down and packing away our festive tents. All support and help with this is welcomed.

Merry Christmas Everyone | Together we can...
