Cultural Cooking
As part of Plymouth's Cultural Celebrations, and in time for Black History Month, Mayflower explored what it meant to grow in diversity. Mayflower's make up is changing all the time. More and more families are attracted to us as a school. They tell us it is because of the services that we offer as well as our, 'Together we can...' ethos. We belive that our school is a better and more exciting place to be when we take time to acknowledge diversity and celebrate our similarities and differences.
We have exciting plans for taking more time to celebrate our cultural diversity. We are keen to take ideas on this too. One idea that has come from our parents who take part in our Diversity Newsletter group, is for us to run a Cultural Cooking event. With this in mind we rolled up our sleeves and took part in our colleagues, Diversity Business Incubator's, cultural cooking events.
Chef, Don, from Honky Tonk Restaurant, has shown an interest in linking with us at Mayflower and will become our resident Community and Cultural advisor.
We can't wait to get started organising cookery events. Our pupils will begin by starting their baking group and our parents will now take their food hygiene qualifications. Watch this space for Cultural Cooking events coming to Mayflower, run by our community, very soon.
Together we can...
Working with a true Pro Chef, such as Don, has inspired me to try new techniques and learn more.
