Our Year 4 students had a fantastic opportunity this month thanks to Theatre Royal Plymouth and Welsh National Opera! They were treated to a special one-off concert featuring famous opera selections.

The excitement was palpable as the children geared up for this unique experience. Many had never been to the opera before, and the anticipation was electric!

The concert, "Step into the Wonderful World of Opera," offered a live orchestral performance perfect for Key Stage 2 students. Led by presenter Ruth Rosales and conductor Olivia Clark, the world-class WNO Orchestra and talented soloists brought the music to life.

The program featured popular opera hits like "Largo al Factotum" from The Barber of Seville and "Habanera" from Carmen. It even included a surprise for Harry Potter fans – John Williams' magical Hedwig Theme!

The children actively participated in the performance, clapping, singing along, and learning about musical dynamics, rhythm, and instruments. They were particularly fascinated by the different opera voices and how they interacted to convey emotions – even though the language might have been unfamiliar. The powerful performances clearly helped them interpret the stories being told.

A definite highlight was the orchestral rendition of Hedwig's Theme, which brought a roar of delight from the young audience.

This special concert was a fantastic introduction to the world of opera for our Year 4 students, sparking their curiosity and appreciation for this beautiful art form.
