City College Plymouth | Curriculum and Extended Opportunities

City College Plymouth have supported our drive to enhance curriculum outcomes in the subject of Design and Technology.

We believed, that if we created the right conditions for pupils to make models of their designs, we would create higher standards of craftsmanship. City College partnered with our staff to design and deliver our Year Six topic.

Pupils were exposed to expert teaching. They were also taught in City College Plymouth's purpose built and resourced tech workshops.

You can view the process of this topic here.

We are hugely grateful to City College Plymouth for challenging and supporting us. There is no question that their expert input increased both motivation of pupils and the quality of their final outcomes.

City College Plymouth has been helping students to get the skills and qualifications they need since 1887! They are now one of the leading providers of vocational, professional and technical training in the South West and the anchor institution for skills in the City of Plymouth.

With a strong focus on vocational and STEM-related subjects such as maritime, manufacturing, construction and the built environment, City College Plymouth works closely with schools such as Mayflower Community Academy to help young people with their understanding and practical experiences linked to design technology and engineering to name a few.

The College offers:

  • 100s of courses to choose from
  • tutors that have real experience in the industry they’re teaching
  • nationally recognised qualifications
  • hands-on experience
  • great facilities, from our multi-million-pound Regional Centre of Excellence for STEM, to a day spa and restaurant
  • help with funding
  • careers advice
  • and a lot more …
Our many recent school projects have included workshop seminars and practical classes enabling the young people of the Mayflower Academy to develop their Bird Hide designs, which will soon be installed on the famous Drakes Island.
